The US government has announced the closure of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which aimed to help low-income Americans access the internet. The program provided eligible individuals with a monthly credit towards their internet bills. Despite calls for additional funding, the program faced a lack of support from Republican leaders in Congress. The closure of the program is expected to impact nearly 60 million Americans, putting them at risk of financial distress. President Joe Biden has called on Congress to pass legislation to extend the ACP. Several internet providers have committed to offering their own low-income internet plans to cover a portion of the affected households.
