Music Labels Take On AI Startups With New Lawsuits

Major music companies have filed lawsuits against two generative AI startups. The companies claim that Suno and Udio violated copyright laws by using scraped copyrighted works from the internet to train their AI models. The plaintiffs include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Warner Music Group. They argue that these startups’ tools enable users to compose new tracks using text prompts, further infringing on artist and labels’ copyrights.
